One of the
biggest lies that big corporations have fed us is that fruit juice provides the
same nutritional value as real fruit. Unfortunately this couldn’t be further
from the truth.
The Ugly Truth About Fruit Juice
In fact, the
main difference between most fruit juices and other sugary drinks is that fruit
juice has added vitamins. However, those extra vitamins aren’t enough to offset
the negative health effects of all that sugar.
Don’t believe
me? Just take a look at the nutrition labels for yourself the next time you’re
in the grocery store.
Here’s an
example:
● Coca Cola --
140 calories and 40 grams of sugar (10 teaspoons)
● Apple juice --
165 calories and 39 grams of sugar (9.8 teaspoons)
All of that
sugar is terrible for your teeth! If you want to enjoy your natural teeth when you’re
older, you’ve got to start making some changes today.
But Fruit Also Contains Sugar So…
That’s a good
point. Fructose is the natural sugar found in all fruit. The difference is that
the amount of sugar found in one serving of fruit versus one serving of juice
is much lower. It’s easy to consume a lot more sugar in a shorter amount of
time when drinking juice than it is when eating fruit -- mainly because eating
fruit is a lot more work and takes more time.
In addition to
containing less sugar, fruit also contains more vitamins, minerals, and
antioxidants than fruit juice. Also, one thing you get from fruit that you
don’t get from juice is fiber. That’s why fruit is not only better for your
dental health, but it’s better for your overall
health as well.
From now on,
stick to eating your fruit instead of drinking it and your future self will
thank you.
